Frequently Asked Questions
Are the accent modification sessions you offer only for Spanish speakers who want to improve their English?
I am bilingual in English and Spanish, but my accent modification sessions can help any speaker who wants to practice their General American English.
Do I have to commit to a certain number of sessions?
No, you do not have to commit to a certain number of sessions with me in order to begin. Sessions are paid for at booking, on a session-per-session basis. However, there may be times when I offer a special discount for a certain number of sessions—you can sign up for my newsletter to be kept up to date on discounts such as these.
What level of English proficiency do I need to have in order to learn from accent modification sessions?
Accent modification sessions are most helpful for intermediate to advanced English speakers. These are people who can carry on conversational English with ease and can understand a wide variety of unscripted interactions without difficulty. If you are uncertain about your English proficiency level, I can help you determine this during your free consultation and direct you to preliminary resources if needed before your pursuit of accent modification sessions.
What supplies do I need for sessions?
All you need is an internet connection, access to Zoom (if this is unavailable to you, contact me to discuss alternatives), and a functioning camera and microphone for video calls.
Does it matter where I am located or which time zone I am in?
I am currently based out of Austin, Texas, USA (CST -6:00), but have flexibility to work with clients across all different time zones and locations. If you contact me for your free consultation, you can indicate where you are from so we can ensure a functional time for both of us.
What curriculum do you use in the accent modification sessions?
The curriculum is a combination of my own resources and methodology from my career as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and the training of Jessica Kijowski, MS, CCC-SLP (The Accent Channel). I’ve been impressed by the tools and resources from Kijowski’s curriculum and look forward to sharing some of it with you!
Do these sessions provide me with a certification or diploma at the end of the course?
Every client has their own unique goals for accent modification sessions, so there is no standardized “completion” of a course with me that would grant you a certification or diploma. During our initial consultation, we will discuss your specific goals and I will adapt a lesson plan unique to you and your needs. It is also important to remember that every client learns at a different pace. (For example, some clients may have time and energy to devote to extensive homework between sessions, while others may only have time to practice during scheduled sessions.) We will work together to help you see and feel progress with every session.
